PROGRAMS THAT UNDERPIN THE ENVD APP
MLA is the Australian Red Meat Industry’s declared marketing and industry research body. MLA works in partnership with the red meat industry and the Australian Government to deliver marketing, research and development products and services to beef, sheep and goat producers. As a subsidiary of MLA, ISC manages and delivers the Australian red meat industry’s three key on-farm assurance and livestock traceability programs:
- Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) program
- LPA National Vendor Declarations (LPA NVD) and
- National Livestock Identification System (NLIS)
Together, these three elements ensure the food safety and traceability of Australian red meat for our domestic and international customers and protects Australia’s access to over 100 export markets.
BACKGROUND
LPA NVDs are required by livestock processors, saleyards, feedlots and producers when transferring livestock between locations. Traditionally completed on paper, these documents provide assurance of food safety, animal welfare and biosecurity standards of the livestock being described. As a signed declaration from the livestock owner, they are a guarantee that the LPA program standards have been met for the livestock being transported and transferred. MSA, NFAS and health declarations are optional forms that are required for particular markets.
APP WILL COMPLETE THE ENVD SUITE OF TECHNOLOGIES
The eNVD web-based system has been available since 2017 but adoption has been limited by the lack of reliable internet access across regional Australia. The eNVD Livestock Consignments App works completely offline, allowing all livestock producers to use the faster, easier and more accurate eNVD system for their livestock consignments, regardless of connectivity.
Adoption of a digital system for the transfer of livestock consignment forms will improve the accuracy of information and compliance with LPA requirements. A digital system will also allow for greater efficiencies in the capture and transfer of livestock information along the value chain.
BENEFITS OF THE ENVD APP FOR USERS
There are a number of key features of the eNVD Livestock Consignments App that will provide significant efficiencies for livestock producers who are currently completing lengthy and repetitive paper-based forms:
- PIC search functionality in offline scenarios
- Incorporation of multiple forms into a single flow, allowing repeated information required for multiple forms to be captured once
- Inclusion of a template feature that allows the details of regular consignments to be saved, making the creation of subsequent forms considerably faster and easier
- Secure verification procedures that ensure only authenticated users can access data
- Easy transfer of data from one user’s device to another via QR code scanning
- Capture and transfer of data in offline scenarios
The eNVD mobile app is available for all LPA accredited producers and provides opportunities for further value adding by combining NVD and National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) transfers.
